BamaBassFishing Newsletter, December 2008 Issue November 30, 2008 |
Produced by Ed Majorsand Barry Brasher Co-Owners - BamaBassFishing.com Barry's Tips
What does winter fishing mean in Alabama? Well, let's look at the whole picture.
1. Cold fronts When a cold front moves through, the fishing gets tough, but they still can be caught in brush piles, standing timber and lay downs. They will pull in tight to thick cover. Fish slow and throw a lot to the same cover. Sometimes it takes a long time to aggravate the bass into a bite. 2. Cold What I mean by cold is thirty to fifty degrees - anything below that I stay at home. I may be old but I am no fool! I go fishing to have fun and relax. Extreme cold is no fun to me. What I try to do to pass the time is prepare for the next year. You know, work on the boat, buy new tackle, organize my tackle boxes, etc. 3. Warm sunny days I don't know what to do on these days because I am always working. Bummer huh! Never hurts to dream though. So I just get another cup of coffee and cig. Then I go outside and wish I was on the lake. I think Mother Nature gets a copy of my schedule just to make my life miserable. Then all my friends call and say "hey you should have called in sick, I caught fifty bass in two hours." Rub it in my friend. 4. Windy, Cold and Rainy Thank God I am working. I love my job!! Rather be fishing but there will be other days. You know in Alabama the weather changes every day. You look at the long range forecast and hope for the best. Turn the T.V. on and the same old crap WINDY, COLD, and RAINY, on your off day, of course. OH WELL!!!! 5. Holidays Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. This is when you spend quality time with the family and friends. Between working, fishing and hunting this time with family is when you stop and think about how good you have it. Now I could sit here and shoot you a bunch of crap about what to do on the lake but instead I will tell you - Shopping first, fishing second, know what I mean? How long do you spend trying a certain "spot" or a certain "bait" or even a certain "technique" when trying to locate and catch your limit of bass. We all seem to be different in our quest for our prized fish.
See what Roger Lee Brown, "The Bass Coach" has to say about it in his new article Thanks and see you on the lake! Ed
