Barry's Tips

July Tips

Well instead of how, when and where, lets talk about, the future of fishing. With the economy being in the condition it is today is it going to affect your fishing habits? I have been very fortunate to work in an industry that does not get affected by much of anything. I am a manager at the Pig(Piggly Wiggly} and everybody has to eat right? Wrong that is usually the first place everybody cuts back on. Even though I still have a job with no short work weeks or pay cuts it has affected the way I fish and the amount of time on the water. The price of gas is on the rise again just because it is summer. Lets face it when gas goes up so does everything else, food, clothing, etc. I fished a few tournaments last year and the number of people showing up is disturbing.

So what I am trying to say is, there is a lot of alternatives out there besides a big boat and a four wheel drive truck. I will fish out of anything, canoes, jon boats, off the bank, just for the love of fishing. Just because times are tough doesn’t mean you have to give up the sport. Bass fishing and the competition of tournament fishing is my passion but I have cut back to just fishing when I can. All you have to do is get back to the basics of fishing. I have caught four and five pound bass wading a creek and thousands of crappie or brim by fishing off a bank. What I have found is peace and quiet with friends and family. That is what fishing is all about. Well I don’t want to go spend twenty bucks on the newest lure on the market so hey what I have in my box will just have to do .

In the months to come I will be trying to give you alternative fishing habits that I hope you will enjoy. It will be like June is a good time to brim fish and catfish. Even though this a bass fishing site there are other fish in the sea. I will be bringing you stripe fishing tips and how to night fish out of a jon boat or off the bank fishing. You will be amazed what you can do with a crappie hook and some weight, and a little bug called a willow fly or a five to six inch shad in a creek on a ninety degree day in five foot of water.

Stay turned for further instructions and go as often as you can. See you on the lake and good luck.

Bama Bass Fishing Store

Just another reminder to visit our new BBF Store!

We have partnered with some of the biggest names in fishing and created an online store where you can shop for anything you might need in the way of tackle, lures, books - even boats! All of these items are things you will buy anyway - but now you can shop in one place and help support your favorite bass fishing site! Granted we only get a tiny commission off everything you buy, but this will help us continue to improve the site and bring you all the information you need for bass fishing in Alabama. And best of all - we have the best prices on the web and it won't cost you a dime more!

Visit the BBF Store and let us know what you think. And when you "go shopping" for that new rod and reel or subscribe to a new magazine, remember to start your trip in the BBF Store. Barry and I will thank you and will continue to bring you new information to the site.

Thanks again,

Ed
