Barry's Tips

Well in Alabama you better be prepared for anything. So lets start off with the weather. While I am writing this it is 70 degrees outside on February the 6th. We had tornado warnings out this morning with 20 to 30 mile an hour winds. I have no idea how to fish this kind of weather - after living here all my life! But I will tell you if you you like to fish that much, write me so I can tell everyone else what a fool you are!

I live close to the lake and I actually saw a couple of boats heading to the lake. So my tip is stay at home so you can fish next week!

It is suppose to go back into the 30's tonight and the highs in the 50's which means a cold front moved through. The wind should go away and baby blue skies will take over. This is a tough time to fish, but they can be caught. The water has warmed with the 70 degree temps so try fishing a little shallower, but slow down your presention and use smaller baits.

Bass should start their prespawn from now till the water temp hits the 60s. So go every chance you get, this is the time the big ones get stupid and will eat everything to fatten up for the spawn.

Just use good common sense and stay safe, live fisherman catch more fish. Now, Let's go Fishin'!

What the Heck is a PROP-AID?

Ever spun a prop? If you haven't, you probably will. There is a great new product, called Hank Parker's Prop-Aid, that will help boaters with a spun prop, return to port. Hank Parker's Prop-Aid replaces the prop's retainer washer and re-establishes enough torque to the prop for low speed operation.

2008 Bassmaster Classic and Outdoor Expo

Coming up is the biggest event in bass fishing - The 2008 Bassmaster Classic and the Classic ESPN Outdoors Expo. This year B.A.S.S. celebrate their 40th anniversary during the Classic and Expo - in Greenville, South Carolina - February 22-25th!

Ray Scott (founder of B.A.S.S.) and about 30,000 other avid anglers will gather to celebrate the sport of bass fishing. The top 50 anglers that have made the "cut" to fish the 2008 Bassmaster Classic will compete for $1.2 million in prize money. The tournament will take place on Lake Hartwell, just southwest of Greenville. The winner of the 3-day Classic event will take home $500,000.00. Talk about a nice pay day!

If you have never been to the Classic ESPN Outdoors Expo - I encourage you to go. It is a sight to see and experience. There are hundreds of booths with thousands of products for those that love the outdoors. I attended the Classic Expo and weigh-in twice at the Birmingham Civic Center and was astounded at the number of "pros" available to talk and sign autographs. I met some of the anglers I watched on TV and read about for years. And let me tell you, you will not meet a nicer group of people. No other sport has "stars" so willing to exchange ideas and help up-an-coming anglers. Don't miss it!!

As most of you know, Barry and I practice "catch and release" in our bass fishing and believe it is vital to maintaining the future of fishing in our lakes and reservoirs. Occasionally, I come across great information to pass along on this subject. The following article is a very comprehensive plan for Catch and Release. Please do your part to preserve our great sport for our kids.
