Barry's Tips

Football, Fishing or Hunting

WAR EAGLE! ROLL TIDE! I love football but fall fishing is my passion so there is no comparison. Hunting is made for those miserable days on the lake. You know, when there's twenty mile an hour winds and it's so cold your line freezes? So when you get up in the morning planning to go fishing, check the weather. Cold fronts will make a day on the lake a waste of time for the average fisherman. A good option for those crappie days is Crappie fishing. Or just stay at home and watch Auburn football or whatever other team is out there. Of course you could fish and listen to the game but that will break up your concentration. Fishing is a mental game and you have to be prepared for every bite you get. You know as the weather changes, fishing changes along with it. As we get into winter being prepared is the key to a good or bad day on the lake.

Anyone that reads these articles knows that I have had my share of bad days after fishing all my life. So I am going to give you some really good advice.

1. Keep your feet and head warm!
2. Always check the weather report.
3. Make sure everything is in good working order.
4. Try not to run all over the lake to find fish. Plan your trip - it saves you time and a lot of cold trips moving around.
5. Have everything tied on before you get on the water. After you get my age, the hands don't work well in the cold.
6. Always carry rain gear - not only will it keep you dry, but it can also be used as extra clothing.
7. Matches or a lighter is a good idea. If you happen to break down for some reason or another, you just might need them. Been there - done that; and believe me that fire sure did feel good.
8. Keep extra clothing in the boat or car just in case you fall in. Don't laugh, it can happen to the best of us.
9. Batteries are the most important part of the trip so make sure they are charged. After all they make everthing work.
10. Last but not least - be safe and have fun. Use good common sense or learn from experience, like me.

Good Luck
Barry

Hey everyone!

I had the opportunity recently to fish with Reed Montgomery, a local well-known fishing guide and tournament angler. Ya'll may know him from his appearances on local TV shows, where he gives regular updates and tips about fishing in Alabama. Sherry and I had a great time fishing with Reed and learned some new ideas for night-time summer bassin'.

For tips on wintertime fishing, check out Reed's article "Winter Bass Fishing on Lake Pickwick." If you get a chance, book a trip with Reed. And let him know you heard about him on BamaBassFishing.com.

Thanks and see you on the lake!

Ed

Yeah, its me again,

I usually let Barry handle most of this Newsletter, but I am excited about some new things happening with our site BamaBassFishing.com. One of them is the new BBF Store!

We have partnered with some of the biggest names in fishing and created an online store where you can shop for anything you might need in the way of tackle, lures, books - even boats! All of these items are things you will buy anyway - but now you can shop in one place and help support your favorite bass fishing site! Granted we only get a tiny commission off everything you buy, but this will help us continue to improve the site and bring you all the information you need for bass fishing in Alabama. And best of all - we have the best prices on the web and it won't cost you a dime more!

Visit the BBF Store and let us know what you think. And when you "go shopping" for that new rod and reel or subscribe to a new magazine, remember to start your trip in the BBF Store. Barry and I will thank you and will continue to bring you new information to the site.

Thanks again,

Ed
