Having said this, and owning several of these, I have three times as many bait casting rigs. Bait casting rigs are a lot more durable and easier to fish heavy lures with. These rigs are the same as spinning as far as offering a large variety of rod sizes, and even gear ratios. The line is easier to spool on a bait cast than on spinning reels. They will cast long distances, and have a very smooth retrieve. It is easier to fish a bait casting rig because of rod position. You seem to have a tendency to fish a spinning reel in a vertical position and a bait cast in a horizontal position which gives you a lot better hook set. Fishing vertical takes longer to set the hook because you have to drop the rod or crank down to get a good hook set. Bait casters, if fished right, are always in a good hook setting position. Let me say there is no right or wrong rig to use. It is just a matter of preference and what you are comfortable with. And I will admit it does take longer to become comfortable with a bait cast reel, but the catch ratio will improve two to one. Just my opinion - what's yours? Contact me at barry@bamabassfishing.com. GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!!!! See you at the lake Barry Barry Brasher is an avid fisherman on Logan Martin and other Alabama lakes.
